WINTHROP, Mass. (AP) — Police are investigating what they're calling a "suicide pact" involving students at schools in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Authorities said Thursday that the alleged pact involved students in Winthrop, Tewksbury and Woburn in Massachusetts and in Manchester, New Hampshire. A female student at Winthrop High School was taken into police custody near the school Thursday afternoon.
Police say students posted messages on social media threatening to harm themselves and others. One school in each of the four towns was mentioned in the threats.
Officials at Winthrop High School sent an email to parents alerting them to the suicide pact. The school temporarily was placed in a "hold in place" mode. The email said Tewksbury police notified Winthrop detectives that they had information about a suicide pact that was posted online.
