NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Old Dominion University Provost Carol Simpson plans to step down at the end of June and return to teaching and research.

Simpson has served as provost and vice president for academic affairs since January 2008.

Old Dominion announced her decision on Wednesday.

Simpson says in a letter to the Old Dominion community that she's not stepping down because of any concern or dissatisfaction. She says she's looking forward to being a professor again.

Associate provost Chandra de Silva will serve as provost until a permanent replacement is hired.
