SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) — Northern California health officials confirmed a new case of measles in San Mateo County on Friday, bringing to 13 the number of known measles cases in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Officials from San Mateo County Healthy System didn't provide any other details in the third measles case confirmed in the county.
Marin County health officials said two unvaccinated children were confirmed to have the highly contagious disease by the county's health department on Thursday.
Marin County Public Health Officer Dr. Matthew Willis said the children, who are related, will remain isolated for the next three weeks and that they were infected outside the county.
Their names and ages were not released.
The new diagnosis in San Mateo Country brings to 13 the number of known measles cases in the Bay Area, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
There have now been three confirmed cases in San Mateo County, six in Alameda County and two in both Santa Clara and Marin counties.
California has for weeks been gripped by a measles outbreak, with most of the cases traced directly or indirectly to Disneyland in Southern California.
According to the California Department of Public Health's website, which was updated on Friday, 91 measles cases had been confirmed statewide, but those figures did not include the new San Mateo County case.
Parents who think their child may have measles should call their doctor immediately rather than going to a clinic or hospital.
