LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The University of Wyoming Alumni Association says the success of its specialty license plate program will allow the university to distribute 10 scholarships to community college students across the state beginning in 2017.

The Laramie Boomerang reports (http://bit.ly/1GELB47 ) that since the program began in 2008, more than 6,500 UW alumni have opted for a license plate sporting the iconic Steamboat logo. The program has generated more than $624,000 in scholarship funds since its inception.

The 10 new scholarships are slated to be awarded to community college transfer students following their arrival at UW. They are set to run through 2021, and students could receive $1,500 annually for up to three years.

The additional scholarships will bring the total number of scholarships offered by the alumni association to 22.
