EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Northwestern University in Evanston has been awarded a grant to help prevent sexual assaults on campus, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin's office announced Friday.
The grant of nearly $300,000 comes from the U.S. Department of Justice and was made possible by the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013.
"Today's announcement is an investment in the safety, security and well-being of the entire Northwestern University community," Durbin said in a statement announcing the award. "This federal funding will assist efforts to prevent sexual violence on campus and to increase awareness among the campus community."
Northwestern will use the money to work with local groups to address sexual violence on campus, expand services for survivors and run awareness programs for students and faculty, according to Durbin's office.
