NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — Five people charged in the shooting death of a 25-year-old Nampa man have pleaded not guilty.

The Idaho Press-Tribune (http://bit.ly/1qQfNLW ) reports James Whitewater, Natalie Whitewater, Wayne Canaday, Alison Yancey and Joshua Wasserburger appeared Friday before 3rd District Judge Gregory M. Culet.

Police responded July 13 to a shooting in the parking lot of a drugstore. They found Pedro Martin Jr. with a gunshot wound to his torso.

Investigators previously said Wasserburger contacted James Whitewater to help him deal with a man they believed had broken the jaw of a female acquaintance and was threatening her again.

Investigators say the Whitewaters, Canaday and Yancey confronted Martin at the woman's home. They say Martin fled after being beaten and was later shot.

James Whitewater is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery.
