TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A University of Arizona student who says she suffered an injured arm and back after being knocked over a bench by a Tucson police officer has filed a $375,000 claim against the city.
The Arizona Daily Star reports (http://bit.ly/1qaN9F6) Christina Gardilcic's claim names the city, Tucson police and the police sergeant involved in the March 29 incident.
A melee broke out on the school's campus after the Wildcats basketball team lost in the NCAA tournament at Anaheim, California.
Police say fans took to the streets and hurled beer bottles and firecrackers at officers who used pepper spray to disperse the crowd.
Gardilcic's claim says she was blindsided by Sgt. Joel Mann as she walked to a parking garage.
City Attorney Mike Rankin says his office will evaluate the claim.
