SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A carousel in St. George that endured a rocky opening three years ago is now making money for this southern Utah city.
The Spectrum of St. George reports (http://bit.ly/Vm7H56 ) that the carousel brought in about $142,000 in the last three years from charging 50 cents to $1 per ride. It has cost the city about $85,000 to operate during that span.
The city purchased the carousel for $275,000. It is in downtown next to a splash pad and children's museum.
Weeks after it opened in 2011, the carousel was shut down after a woman was injured by two fiberglass panels that fell off the ride. The woman sued and a lawsuit was settled this year.
Downtown restaurant owner Dail Brady says the carousel has increased family traffic in the area.
