BLACKFOOT, Idaho (AP) — A southeastern Idaho police chief has apologized to the community after four off-duty officers not in uniform who had been drinking trespassed at a private business.
Blackfoot Police Chief Kurt Asmus says the agency completed an internal investigation Monday.
Asmus says the unarmed officers on Aug. 5 at about 10 p.m. walked through an open gate that was posted with no trespassing signs.
Bingham County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call from security at the business. Asmus says the business didn't want to press criminal charges.
The officers were suspended with pay pending disciplinary action. Asmus cited personnel policies in declining to reveal disciplinary measures. The names of the officers haven't been released.
Blackfoot Mayor Paul Loomis says he supports the chief's actions.
