SOUTH OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A South Ogden monastery that's been vacant since a group of five nuns moved to Minnesota last summer could soon become a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.
The Standard-Examiner reports (http://bit.ly/1muHmxK ) Steps Recovery Center is purchasing St. Benedict's Monastery and is awaiting local government approval to convert the 18-acre property to a residential treatment center.
Steps founder Mike Jorgensen says the spiritual nature of the campus was especially attractive for the rehab company, which uses the spirituality-based 12-Step treatment model.
The property's zoning is scheduled for discussion at a South Ogden Planning Commission meeting on July 10.
Steps operates similar centers in Payson and St. George. Jorgensen says residents are admitted to the center voluntarily.
