Asia stocks gain on stimulus hopes, Europe lower

BEIJING (AP) — International stock markets are mixed today, with European shares lower in morning trading amid simmering tensions over Ukraine.

Markets in France, Germany and Britain are down.

Earlier today, Asian markets closed mostly higher on expectations of stimulus in China after manufacturing growth slowed in August.

In China, two surveys show manufacturing growth slowed in August as export demand and investment weakened, raising expectations Beijing might launch more stimulus.

Wall Street is closed today for the Labor Day holiday and will be coming off gains on Friday when markets reopen tomorrow.
