NEW YORK (AP) — A contractor has halted construction on a prefabricated residential high-rise near Brooklyn's Barclays Center and the Atlantic Terminal train yards.
The New York Times reports (http://nyti.ms/1C8djBA ) Skanska stopped work at the site on Tuesday and closed down its prefabrication hub at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Wednesday.
The newspaper says the Swedish construction firm and construction manager cited design flaws and tens of millions of dollars in extra costs in its decision.
The company had a $117 million contract to supply 930 modules for the 32-story tower. It's the first of 14 planned prefabricated structures in the recently renamed Pacific Park development.
Project developer Forest City Ratner told the newspaper it is confident the buildings will be built and that the Skanska dispute is strictly over money.
