RENO, Nev. (AP) — A status hearing has been postponed for a 24-year-old man accused of killing and dismembering several dogs in a Nevada motel room. Jason Brown was arrested after a maid found a dead dog in a south Reno motel room on July 9. Brown's attorney has said that his client has mental health issues. A half-dozen animal rights protesters demonstrated outside the courthouse today.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Department of Corrections says an inmate was quickly captured after bolting from a northern Nevada prison yesterday evening. Brian Kakowski was captured less than a mile from the Warm Springs Correctional Center, about 10 minutes after he was spotted outside the prison fence. He's been transferred to different prison.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas visitors can now hail a ride from a taxi or limo company using their smartphone. Las Vegas-based Integrity Vehicle Solutions launched the Ride Genie app today. Unlike ridesharing apps Uber and Lyft, the drivers are professionals regulated through the taxi authority and not people using their own cars.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Celine Dion has cleared her calendar of all performances, saying she needs to focus on her health, her husband's health and raising their three young children. The superstar vocalist is cancelling shows that were slated through March 22, 2015, including a tour of Asia planned for the fall and regular shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
