LAS VEGAS (AP) — Friends and family are mourning a road construction worker killed on a Las Vegas street by a man who police suspect was driving drunk.
A vigil Monday evening honored 57-year-old Robert Lujan, who died in the Sunday morning crash on West Sahara Avenue.
Police say Lujan was cutting asphalt with a wet saw in the bus lane when a Ford F-150 veered out of its lane and hit him.
Investigators say the truck also hit an empty Chevy nearby before the driver walked away and hid in a trash bin.
Officers say 54-year-old driver Rafael Mendez-Soto smelled of alcohol and said he drank eight or nine beers over the course of seven hours at a North Las Vegas bar. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
