ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A bill that would prevent employers from denying their workers reproductive health coverage under their insurance plans is slowly making its way through the Senate toward a vote.
On Tuesday, the measure dubbed the "Boss Bill" was unanimously reported out of the Senate labor committee.
The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule soon in case brought by the store Hobby Lobby, which is seeking to remove certain emergency contraception coverage from the mandated health insurance services required under the Affordable Care Act because it violates their religious beliefs.
Manhattan Democrat Sen. Liz Krueger, the bill's sponsor, says it will close a loophole in the state's anti-discrimination law, regardless of the Supreme Court decision.
The legislation advances to its first reading before it could be voted on in the Republican-led Senate.
