LAS VEGAS (AP) — NV Energy is planning to close three of its Reid Gardner coal-fired power plants this year and completely end the use of coal power plants by 2019. The company plans to make up for the lack of coal power by acquiring two existing gas-generated plants in Southern Nevada and two solar farms, including one planned on the Moapa Paiute reservation and an array on Nellis Air Force Base.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Health inspectors say they closed Eva Longoria's female-focused steakhouse on the Las Vegas Strip after finding violations of food-temperature regulations. The Southern Nevada Health District reports it closed SHe by Morton's on Wednesday. Health district spokeswoman Stephanie Bethel says restaurants can reopen when they correct the violations and inform health officials.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials broke ground yesterday on a 20,000-seat arena along the Las Vegas Strip that's expected to boost the city's chances of attracting professional sports teams and sate high demand for large-scale concerts and events in Sin City. Slated for completion in the spring of 2016, the arena will be the centerpiece of an 8-acre, tree-lined entertainment and dining district dubbed "The Park."

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Democrats retain a 64,000 voter registration lead over Republicans as the 2014 election season ramps up. Figures released yesterday by the secretary of state's office show Democrats account for 41 percent of Nevada voters, while Republicans make up 35 percent. About 18 percent of Nevada voters are registered as nonpartisan. Another 5 percent are with other minor political parties.
