(AP) - THE PERFORMANCE: Walgreen Co. said its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings soared 86 percent. It earned $657 million, or 69 cents per share, in the August quarter , up from $353 million, or 39 cents per share, a year ago. Adjusted earnings totaled 73 cents per share. Revenue climbed 5 percent to $17.94 billion.

EXPECTATIONS: Analysts were expecting earnings of 72 cents per share on $17.96 billion in revenue, according to FactSet.

ABOUT WALGREEN: It runs the nation's largest chain of drugstores, with 8,116 locations nationwide.
