Police in Chicago say a man who pointed a gun at officers has been shot and killed in the city's South Shore neighborhood. Police say officers heard shots fired just after 10 p.m. and saw a van driving away. A male passenger jumped out of the van and began running. A statement says the man, whose identity and age were not released, pointed a gun at the officers, one of whom opened fire. A weapon was recovered.

An eastern Idaho sheriff charged with three counts of misuse of public funds is asking that his criminal trial be moved out of the county so he can get an unbiased jury. The Post Register reports that Jefferson County Sheriff Blair Olsen filed the request in 7th District Court. In February he pleaded not guilty.
