CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — There will be some changes to Wyoming's vehicle license plates this year.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation says residents renewing their registration this year will get new plates that are designed to ensure vehicles are not misidentified outside of Wyoming.
The new plate features a new background, showing Square Top Mountain in the Wind River Range near Dubois.
In addition, WYDOT Manager of Motor Vehicle Services Debbie Lopez says the new plate design includes new markings that distinguish between passenger vehicles, trucks, commercial carriers and other designations.
For instance, truck plates will now bear a "T'' on them to distinguish them from other types of vehicles.
Lopez says the current design resulted in confusion in other states when issuing tickets or charging a toll.
