BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Officials with Idaho's solar energy industry are encouraging lawmakers to include solar projects in a production tax currently granted to other forms of renewable energy developers. A legislative interim panel heard input on possible legislation for the 2016 Idaho Legislature. The proposed legislation would subject solar energy developers to a 3 percent tax on the production of electricity rather than pay property taxes.
BURLEY, Idaho (AP) — Idaho's Mini-Cassia region must come to a consensus about relocating its deteriorating airport by early 2016 or it could lose the economic driver it's been trying for 25 years to save. The Times-News reports that J.R. "Jack" Simplot Airport has been constrained by a highway, the Snake River and a city that grew around it. The Federal Aviation Administration says Burley must either lengthen the airport's runways or find a new location.
NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — The Nampa Police Department plans to change the way it handles sexual assault kits in the wake of concerns over low testing rates. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that Nampa detectives will now ask all victims if they want their kit tested, instead of working with victims on whether they want to prosecute and create large backlogs.
KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho (AP) — Three people have been arrested in Idaho in connection with the abduction and assault of a woman found walking along a highway bound in duct tape. The Kootenai Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a call Wednesday night about a woman walking along Highway 53. Deputies have arrested Angela M. Frisby, Travis S. Anderson and Lilly M. Johnson, all of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on kidnapping and aggravated assault charges.
