Stocks open mostly lower, led by declines in energy sector

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are opening mostly lower, led by declines in energy stocks as the price of oil turns lower.

Consol Energy sank 4 percent in early trading Friday.

The Dow Jones industrial average edged down 17 points, or 0.1 percent, to 17,795 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index was little changed at 2,089. The Nasdaq composite inched up six points, or 0.1 percent, to 5,122.

Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.22 percent.

U.S. markets were closed Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday. They will close early on Friday.
