CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The amount of taxable sales in Nevada rose more than 5 percent in September compared with the same month a year ago, although state revenue collected from it is slightly less than expected.
The Nevada Department of Taxation reported Wednesday that there were $4.4 billion in taxable sales in Nevada in September. More than $344 million in taxes was collected off those sales, and about $88 million of that went to the state general fund.
The general fund sales tax collections in the first three months of the fiscal year are about 1 percent lower than economists predicted when they made their forecast at the Economic Forum in May.
Taxes collected on cigarettes are 41 percent below the prediction made in May, or about $18 million short.
