DRAPER, Utah (AP) — The Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining says a gravel mine near Draper has been digging outside its permit area, moving across the Utah County line into Salt Lake County. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that officials with the Geneva Rock mine denied that they were conducting any unauthorized mining in their Point of the Mountain operation.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Unified police say a police dog was instrumental in convincing a fugitive to surrender. Police say 24-year-old Stephen Hammer was one of the department's most wanted fugitives. They tracked him to a West Valley City mobile home on Wednesday. He refused to come out until he heard a police dog barking at him.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's public colleges and universities are seeing a surge in enrollment this fall as many Mormon missionaries return home. Higher education officials say Utah Valley University had a six percent increase in students, making it the largest institution of higher learning in the state. Southern Utah University saw the largest gain, with 16 percent more students enrolling than last year.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Prosecutors say a 29-year-old man posed as a federal agent in an attempt to get VIP tickets to a Comic Con event in Salt Lake City. They say Johnathon Wall claimed he was a special agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. He was arrested when a security guard checked and the agency said they never heard of Wall.
