LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 13-year-old transgender student who wanted to use the boy's bathroom and locker room at his middle school in Elko County has sparked a new round of debate among legislators over the issue. The school board rejected his request, prompting the threat of legal action by the American Civil Liberties Union.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A wet storm produced flooding that prompted the closure today of a road leading to Nevada's Valley of Fire State Park. No injuries were reported, and park official Tracy Strassburg said roads weren't damaged inside the state park about 35 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Las Vegas police say flooding prompted closure of the road between Interstate 15 and the park entrance.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The daily fantasy sports industry has gone to great lengths to distance itself from traditional sports wagering, and the CEO of the ubiquitous DraftKings website made no effort to get cozy as he sat in front of a crowd of casino executives at a casino trade show last week. The legal stance by Jason Robins of DraftKings that daily fantasy sports leagues are not a chance-based gamble has done nothing to tamp down what has become an intensifying national debate.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley is planning to meet with unions and Latino leaders during a two-day campaign stop in Las Vegas. The former Maryland governor kicks off the visit this afternoon with a tour of the Culinary Health Fund Clinic. He's scheduled to attend a town hall meeting with the Service Employees International Union later in the day.
