CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada officials say an $11 million grant from the federal government could help them reduce suicide attempts and improve school performance among children with mental illnesses. Gov. Brian Sandoval and director Richard Whitley of the state Department of Health and Human Services announced the four-year grant yesterday.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada state court jury is deliberating whether a former Las Vegas firefighter is guilty of conspiring with a homeless ex-convict to murder his wife nearly three years ago. A prosecutor cast George Tiaffay (TEE'-uh-fay) as guilty and the one who controlled Noel Stevens — the man who admits using a hammer to kill Shauna Tiaffay in September 2012. Tiaffay was at work when his wife was killed.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Republican presidential hopeful Marco Rubio says he met with Gov. Brian Sandoval during his northern Nevada campaign tour, but the two didn't discuss an endorsement. Rubio said he visited the Republican governor yesterday morning, before holding a town hall at a community center in Carson City and making campaign stops in other rural Nevada towns. Sandoval told the Las Vegas Sun that Rubio is an "impressive guy" and that he didn't seek an endorsement.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Lawyers for Sands China Ltd. are relying on well-known attorney Alan Dershowitz in arguing for the dismissal of a wrongful termination lawsuit being pursued against the company in a southern Nevada courtroom because it's registered in the Cayman Islands and does business in China, not Las Vegas. The Nevada Supreme Court did not rule yesterday.
