PARMA, Idaho (AP) — The University of Idaho recently held a Fruit Field Day to show off unique fruit and share growing methods.
KTVB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1i9ZXiw ) that Friday's event in Parma attracted swarms of visitors to tables and baskets overflowing with free fruit samples.
But the program is alluring to fruit growers because they can learn what kind of growing methods work and what types of fruit will sell before spending a lot of money on a new project.
University of Idaho agriculture professor Esmaeil Fallahi says he and his Parma research center team have developed all new types of fruit now grown in Idaho. The list includes varieties of peaches, nectarines, apples, plums and grapes.
Fallahi says they also research the most cost-efficient ways to grow high-quality fruit.
