CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada higher education officials faced with a tight deadline to launch a need-based scholarship are seeking more authority for staff to finalize program details. The Nevada Board of Regents meets today to decide whether to give Chancellor Dan Klaich some extra authority in crafting policies for the Silver State Opportunity Grant.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas medical marijuana patient who was accused of preparing to sell drugs has been acquitted of two felony drug charges. KLAS-TV reports that 65-year-old Stephen Ficano was arrested in 2012 after police watched him grow marijuana openly in his backyard.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A bankruptcy court that ruled lawsuits against Caesars Entertainment Corp. would not be halted as the company's debt-heavy subsidiary attempts to emerge from Chapter 11 has also denied Ceasars' effort to fast-track an appeal of the decision. A Caesars attorney has argued the fate of its bankrupt operations subsidiary and its own financial well-being are at risk if creditor lawsuits seeking billions of dollars proceed.

TAHOE VISTA, Calif. (AP) — A pair of developers is proposing a 550-site campsite atop Tahoe Ridge that, if approved, would be the first new campsite in the Tahoe Basin in more than 20 years. Sierra Pacific Industries and Mountainside Partners are planning to submit an application for land owned by SPI to be developed as the Brockway Campground.
