SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah liquor bosses have granted special permission for a distillery to offer flights of whiskey samples during tours, opening the door for more distillers and breweries to seek similar exemptions under the state's knotty liquor laws. The permit approved by Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission comes after High West Distillery and Saloon spent a year convincing liquor bosses that tastings would be educational and outside the view of children.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Highway Patrol says nobody died on Utah's roads during the celebratory Pioneer Day weekend. The Deseret News reports that the long weekend has a reputation for fatal crashes involved intoxicated drivers. Between 2003 and 2013, nine such fatalities occurred on that weekend -- more than any other holiday. Troopers say they responded to 82 crashes and made 41 DUI arrests.

HOWELL, Utah (AP) — Residents of Box Elder County may have felt the ground move when a minor earthquake struck the area. The Standard-Examiner reports that the University of Utah Earthquake Center confirmed a 0.9 magnitude earthquake. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, an earthquake of a 0.9 magnitude isn't likely to cause damage.
