SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Mormon woman whose photograph was used by her church last week on a webpage explaining the faith's belief that marriage should be between a man and woman says she supports the legalization of gay marriage. Sylvia Cabus (CAH'-buhs) of Washington, D.C., said today she isn't asking for the photo to be taken down. But she decided to speak out to clarify her belief.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A federal judge in Utah has awarded a $134.2 million default judgment in a lawsuit filed on behalf of two American soldiers against a Canadian man who pleaded guilty to committing war crimes when he was 15. Salt Lake City lawyer Laura Tanner said this week that collecting the award could be a challenge, but she's looking for a Canadian law firm to help begin the process.
PROVO, Utah (AP) — A witness says a pig-shaped hot-air balloon crashed into a tree and caught fire at a balloon festival in Utah, cutting the pilot's face. Kevin Auernig was at the America's Freedom Festival Balloon Fest in Provo this morning when he saw the balloon coming down. He says parts of the balloon got stuck on a tree and looked like strips of bacon.
PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — Public records obtained by The Associated Press show that a studio executive described an incident with actor Emile Hirsch during the Sundance Film Festival as "insanely painful and absolutely terrifying." Authorities say Hirsch assaulted the executive, Daniele Bernfeld, on Jan. 25 at a night club in Park City. Hirsch says he was defending himself.
