SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An accounting clerk who pleaded guilty to embezzling more than half a million dollars from a Utah power company has been sentenced to two years in prison.
KSL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1gbKoGa ) that 42-year-old Stephanie Jarvi-Peterson admitted in U.S. District Court that she stole $572,303 from Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems between 2007 and 2013. She wrote checks from the company's account and used the money for personal expenses while falsifying accounting records.
According to the plea agreement, Jarvi-Peterson took $192,847 to use as personal income in 2011 but did not report it to the IRS.
She pleaded guilty in March to filing a false tax return. On Monday, a judge sentenced her to 24 months in prison and ordered her to repay the stolen money.
