BEIJING (AP) — Stocks overseas have been mostly higher today on a quiet trading day.

Wall Street is closed for the Memorial Day holiday. And markets in London and Hong Kong are also shut down for holidays.

In Asia, the Shanghai Composite Index surged 3.4 percent. And Tokyo's Nikkei gained seven-tenths of a point. In Europe, stocks in France moved lower.

There are still lingering concerned over Greece, where the market was down two percent today. The country's ruling coalition has rejected a call from party hardliners to skip the next payment to the International Monetary Fund on June 5.

Greece doesn't have the money to make the debt repayment without more bailout loans. But it is not yet agreeing to make the new reforms being demanded by creditors.

Greece says it expects a deal by the end of the month.
