MILAN (AP) — Italy's flagship airline Alitalia said a 24-hour strike called for Monday that will force flight cancellations is "disrespectful" of passengers when the Rome airport is still suffering disruptions due to a fire two weeks ago.
Alitalia said in a statement Saturday the strike is falsely evoking the threat of layoffs and that it was called based on issues that had already resolved with other unions representing the majority of pilots and flight attendants.
The ANPAC union said it hadn't received adequate guarantees that jobs would be secured after contracts expire next February. The strike affects Alitalia and its regional subsidiary Cityliner but excludes the airports of Bari, Brindisi and Genoa.
A fire two weeks ago at Rome's international airport terminal continues to have repercussions on air travel.
