ELSMERE, Del. (AP) — Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald says he is eager to get a series of investigations regarding long wait times and other issues at VA facilities around the nation behind him.
McDonald joined members of Delaware's congressional delegation Monday for a tour of the VA medical center in Elsmere and meetings with veterans' representatives and hospital staff.
McDonald says he doesn't know when an inspector general's report on the Delaware veterans facility will be complete.
But he says his agency is undergoing a major restructuring aimed at improving patient care and customer service at VA hospitals around the country.
McDonald's visit Monday included a stop at the University of Delaware's STAR campus in Newark to talk to nursing students as part of his agency's push to hire more healthcare providers.
