PROVO, Utah (AP) — Defense lawyers say they're negotiating with prosecutors for a plea deal in the case of a Utah woman accused of killing six of her newborn babies and storing their bodies in her garage. A hearing in the case of 39-year-old Megan Huntsman was delayed for two weeks today. She faces six counts of murder in the deaths discovered as her estranged husband cleaned the garage in April.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah judge is delaying a decision on whether a woman is mentally fit to stand trial in the case of a newborn baby left in a trash can. A judge today said she is waiting for a second evaluation of 23-year-old Alicia Englert, who is facing an attempted murder charge. The judge rescheduled the hearing for Feb. 9. Englert's family has said she has a learning disability and didn't understand the situation.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah lawmakers have kicked off their legislative session with a tribute to former House Speaker Rebecca "Becky" Lockhart, who died just over a week ago. Members of the House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution honoring Lockhart this morning and wore pins featuring her initials on their lapels.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The chief justice of the Utah Supreme Court says Utah lawmakers should consider raising the salaries of the state's judges. Chief Justice Matthew Durrant endorsed the proposal this afternoon during his annual State of the Judiciary address to lawmakers. Judicial salaries were last increased in 2007.
