LAS VEGAS (AP) — State transportation officials have lifted restrictions on commercial trucks using a stretch of Interstate 15 still under repair between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City.
The freeway had two northbound and one southbound lane open Thursday near Moapa, about 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
Transportation department spokeswoman Ranya Botros says a second southbound lane of the divided highway could be repaired and open by the weekend.
Gov. Brian Sandoval declared a state of emergency in the rural area after intense rainfall and flash flooding Sept. 8 washed away chunks of the freeway.
Northbound big-rig trucks were detoured off I-15 at times for more than a week to a route adding 50 miles and several hours to their Nevada-to-Utah trip.
