CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Supreme Court has upheld a $1 million verdict against a security firm accused of not doing enough to prevent the fatal attack of a man in a crime-riddled Las Vegas Wal-Mart parking lot. The high court on Friday declined to grant a new trial to private security firm Wackenhut in the death of 51-year-old Michael Born in 2004.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Nevada still ranks in the bottom five of an annual national report card on children's education, health care and poverty. Nevada came in at 48th, mostly because of the number of children living in poverty.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada retirement officials say more people are choosing to retire when Medicare kicks in at age 65. State and local government employees are retiring at a much older age than they were a decade ago. The actuary for the Nevada Public Employees' Retirement System reports the average retirement age for regular public sector workers in 2013 was 65. That's up from 59 in 2004.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say an Electric Daisy Carnival attendee who was found unresponsive in a Las Vegas Strip hotel room died after consuming Ecstasy, cocaine and ethanol. Clark County coroner's officials have ruled Anthony Anaya's death an accident.
