SALT LAKE CITY -- Despite the recession, the local and organic food industry is growing.
If you have not been buying local, Utah food producers want to change your mind.
Gary Hirshberg, president and CEO of Stonyfield Farm Yogurt, said, "If you want to make sure you're eating not only good for your family but good for the economy and good for ecology, then you should be buying organic. You should be buying local when you can and buying with quality."
Champion of the local food movement, Hirshberg stressed Thursday that when supporting a local farmer or grower you're keeping the money in local circulation to be recycled for economic growth.
The organic market has grown 20 percent annually over the past 18 years and is now a $23.5 billion industry.
