SALT LAKE CITY -- A cougar sighting has tenants at a building on a remote section of the University of Utah campus on notice. Three young cougars were spotted in and around the parking garage at the Williams Building at 295 Chipeta Way around 7 a.m. Monday.
Building manager Jonathon Bates said surveillance video also captured the trio. That prompted him to put out a warning to tenants and visitors, telling them to be on the lookout and giving advice on what to do if they encounter a such an animal.
"At this time we don't see any real threats," Bates said. "We're keeping our eyes open, if we do see them on property again, we'll get back in touch with the Division of Wildlife Resources."
Bates said wildlife officers told him it was unusual for three animals to travel together and they're probably juveniles.
The Williams Building is just west of Red Butte Gardens and is just South of a wooded ravine. Bates said they see wildlife all the time, but cougars are a little unusual.
