LOS ANGELES -- Marie Osmond's 18-year-old son, Michael Blosil, committed suicide Friday night.
People magazine reports Blosil leaped to his death from his apartment in Los Angeles around 9 p.m. He left a note explaining his intention to commit suicide because of a lengthy battle with severe depression that left him, he said, feeling like he could never fit in.
Blosil had a troubled history, including spending time in a rehabilitation facility in 2007 at the age of 16. By March of 2009, however, Osmond told People magazine he seemed to be turning his life around, finishing his last year of high school with a 3.9 GPA and "looking at scholarships to some wonderful colleges."
Blosil is one of eight children Osmond has raised with ex-husband Brian Blosil.
Through a statement released by her rep, Osmond said, "My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time."
A representative for both Donny and Marie Osmond confirmed that "The Donny and Marie Show" currently headlining at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev., was canceled Saturday night. It is being determined how long the hiatus will remain in effect.
