DRAPER -- The man who bailed out Gary Coleman says he was a longtime fan who decided he had to do something about the actor's plight.

Jarrod Clarke of Draper spoke to KSL Newsradio Tuesday.

"If you see his mug shot, I mean, what a sad face," Clarke said. "To see that he was sitting in there -- and he'd been there for 27 hours -- and bail was only $1,700, I thought somebody probably ought to do something."

Clarke took the long drive from Draper to the Utah County Jail in Spanish Fork Monday to free Coleman.

"They said since we were bailing him out, we had to give him a ride home," Clarke said. Turns out, Clarke didn't get to meet Coleman because his father-in-law showed up to drive him away.

"I don't want to be selfish," Clarke said when asked about the missed opportunity. "It would have been fun, but it didn't happen."

Clarke says Coleman was taken out in a wheelchair, and he was told he was having health problems. Coleman's wife later called to say thank you.

Coleman was arrested Sunday after police responded to reports of a civil disturbance at his home in Santaquin.
