PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Authorities have identified a man shot and killed by police in Utah County after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers.
Officials say 50-year-old Todd Hainsworth, of Utah County, died Tuesday. Authorities say he was suicidal and pulled a pistol on Utah County sheriff's deputies.
The sheriff's office has said officers responded to a report of a suicidal person Tuesday. Officials say Hainsworth told dispatchers that he had taken pills.
The sheriff's office says that when officers found and approached Hainsworth, he started his vehicle and rammed a police car. A short car chase ensued before authorities said Hainsworth got out of the vehicle and pointed a gun directly at officers.
Two deputies fired at Hainsworth, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is still under investigation.
