Wednesday's explosion isn't the first problem at the Silver Eagle Refinery. KSL 5 News found evidence of four major incidents in the past five years, and a neighbor says there's at least one more she can recall.

Why hasn't this refinery been condemed years back? I used to haul fuel out of there & something was almost always broken down. Fuel & fuel oils everywhere just waiting to be a disaster!
Evanston S.E. isn't much better either.
How do you defend your safety record by comparison with other companies? Even if the other refineries have worse records then Silver Eagle does that make them better? It seems that safety is not a primary concern here. I have worked inside Tesoro, Chevron and Flying J and you can tell when there is a concern for safety. I have lived near Silver Eagle since 2000 and in that time they have burned more then all the others combined. Last time they fried their own employees. I hope something is done now before someone gets hurt again or is killed. Right now it looks like that is inevitable.
no changes will come from this, but hey idiots that moved in next to the refinery, are you that desperate to buy a home in such a unsafe place, there are safer places to live and just as cheap, to put your family in danger just to live in woods cross or bountiful is stupid on your part, yes the refinery is unsafe and does not care much for safety, so again why would you live there.
@motto33 - Motto your an idiot. I moved into Woodscross over ten years ago I am about a mile away from this refinery. I didn't know that living that distance from refinery would ever cause a problem with me. But it has. Can I just up and move? Of course not. Blaming the people that moved in around the refinery is not fair. Just becuase the refinery has been there longer does not mean they can act in such an unresponsible manner.
Fires up there are a little to regular these days. Only a matter of time before something big happens if process safety (or safety in general) isn't addressed and made priority #1. Any industrial facility is ONLY as safe as its operators allow.
@Erik S. - That place is a ticking time bomb, maybe this will be the straw that broke the camels back, and OSHA will shut the place down. Hopefully before another incident.

It Is What It Is
The refinery has been there a long time.
Yes they have had problems and it is a danger zone.
So someone please tell me why would someone want to live in such a place.
Who was the idiot that gave the go ahead to build houses that close to a refinery.
Don't close the refinery it was there first.
A good idea may be to find a safer place to live, not next to a oil refinery.
@Judy D. - You didn't read the topic of the story did you. I am not talking about living near the refinery. I am talking about their safety issues IN the refinery. I live west of this place where it has not affected me other then the roads they close to fight these fires. The issue is the lives at stake in and around the refinery. Something needs to happen or moms and dads won't come home at night.
Were not idiots for moving in silver eagle is the idiots if your blaming residents for the explosion then your the stupid one and if silver eagle really exploded then bountiful could be effected too its not just the people in woods cross who felt it
I think they should rename it from "Silver Eagle Refinery" to "Flaming J Refinery". Oh wait, that might be too close to another petroleum company name.
If this refinery has this much problems, why would you live by it. More importantly and to the point of the story, why would you want to work at a place that has a high risk for fires and explosions?
Find another job and different place to live.
Or accept the risks to life and limb.
