Deputies arrest suspected serial burglar in Salt Lake
November 3rd, 2009 @ 9:34pm

SALT LAKE CITY -- A suspect in a string of local residential burglaries has been arrested thanks to the hard work of Salt Lake County sheriff's detectives.

The detectives have had the suspect under surveillance for several days. They followed him to an FYE store near 2100 South and 700 East Tuesday afternoon, and he fled with several employees chasing him.

The detectives, with the help of Salt Lake City police and the U.S. Marshal's Criminal Apprehension Team, arrested the suspect near Foothill Boulevard and Sunnyside Avenue.

Brock Mackenzie, 25, now faces theft charges in the FYE case. He also had outstanding warrants for several burglaries in the Millcreek area, mostly for taking high-end electronics.

"It's pretty clear this guy has been very, very active over the recent weeks, as far as residential burglaries and thefts. So, we're very, very happy to get him off the street. He obviously has been victimizing some people over the past month or so," said Salt Lake County sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson.

Detectives also arrested Mackenzie's wife. They believe the pair made off with dozens of DVDs and CDs from the FYE store.
