@Sharppointy1 - Hero? Ok yeah flying a plane at all would be way to stressful to me, but unless the plane was disabled in some way and the pilots had to fight it all the way back to the airport to keep it from falling the sky, then I think it's a stretch to call them "heros".
I'm no expert, but they probably could have made it all the way here and wouldn't have noticed the damage til they were on the ground.

I was on that same flight Sunday morning. No bird strikes but when we were flying over the southern tip of the Grand Canyon I looked down and saw another Southwest airplane right below us. It just seemed way too close, everyone started talking about it on our plane. It was just too close.

Birds rarely report such things to the authorities, but I'm sure they did not survive.

Come on KSL,
You write about a MD90 getting a bird strike, please post a picture of an MD90 to give your bloggers some idea of what kind of aircraft is involved. The aircraft you have a picture of does not fit your description.

@booboo1 - Most people really don't care if the plane in the photo is the same exact model unless it is reported as being the exact same plane. This is just a stock delta photo.
When there is a story about someone being arrested do you complain that the police car in the stock photo isn't the same model as the one used by the arresting officer?

@booboo1 - rideutah,
What is your point? This story is clearly about an MD90, this is the exact same plane used in the story; the picture does not match. If there was a story about a shooting, and a rifle was used, would a picture of a .45 suffice? After all, it still shoots bullets??? KSL would have footage of aircraft if they just took the time to research the make....what is the internet for??

@booboo1 - Unlike the average person with their non-professional blogs and whatnot, KSL.com can't just go snag an MD90 photo from the Google and plaster it up on their site. If they don't have a stock photo of an MD90, they use whatever similar plane photo they have. To the vast majority of people a passenger jet is a passenger jet.

@booboo1 - Hi Mr. Flibble,
I am still of the opinion that KSL should place a photo on line relevant to the story. You state that, "Unlike the average person with their non-professional blogs and whatnot, KSL.com can't just go snag an MD90 photo from the Google and plaster it up on their site. If they don't have a stock photo of an MD90, they use whatever similar plane photo they have. To the vast majority of people a passenger jet is a passenger jet". If this was a story about a sex offender or a piece of low life, would you like it if KSL used your picture in the story in place of the offender because yours was a generic picture which just happened to be 'on file'?? I think from my statement, you would now agree that accurate reporting is important; nothing is left to chance.

@booboo1 - How can you actually think a photo of a random person tossed up to represent some sex offender is the same thing? One is wanton defamation of a person's character, the other is using a stock photo of an object. What I think from your statement is that you are severely lacking in common sense.

The avian war continues. They have troops in the air at all time, and even though our planes are larger than their feathery planes, we are occasionally reminded that this is a war to the death. These warriors with beaks will not stop. They are relentless. Their goal is our total extermination. We must defeat these terrorist birds. We must be ever vigilant. The department of airspace security has raised the threat level to white, which means there is an extreme chance of bird terrorist droppings and kamikaze missions.

@Larry S. - We need to have bird patrol, any illegal birds crossing paths with planes need to be shot on sight or escorted to their place of origin or Mexico.

Get enough birds and make a lovely jacket to wear to the PETA convention.

to utefan121 -- a few years ago i was returning from san diego, and somewhere in the area of las vegas i also saw a southwest plan that was WAYYY too close. almost could tell the color of the pilot's eyes... (well not quite that) i didn't remember the "rules" of how close so i kept watching for it. the space required when at altitude is 1 mile vertically and 3 miles horizontally. sounds like there was no where near that amount for your flight, too.
