PROVO -- An 11-year-old Provo boy is recovering from a dog attack. He and his family are grateful a stranger saw the attack and stepped in to help.
Miles Graham said he was walking to Provost Elementary School in Provo on Tuesday morning when a German shepherd at a home near 1100 East and 800 South jumped the fence and attacked.
Juan Riboldi was driving his own son to school when he saw the boy in trouble.
"I saw that there was a big German shepherd attacking this boy, about 11 years old," said Riboldi.
He got out of his car and did all he could to get the dog away. "I had to growl at the dog because he was real intent on attacking this boy," Riboldi said.
He kept the dog at a distance until the owner came out of the house. Then he put the boy in his car to survey the damage.
"He had a pair of jeans and both legs were ripped by the seams and he had bites on both ankles," said Riboldi. "He had a chunk of flesh missing."
Riboldi took the boy to his parents' house. They took him to the hospital where he received stitches.
"He was very, very terrified. He was shaking even for a long time after that happened. His heart was racing, he was crying," said Riboldi.
The boy's mother, Angela Graham, said her son was doing much better. The boy was able to return back to school Thursday, but this time his parents gave him a ride.
As for the dog, Graham said if he isn't euthanized, she at least wants him moved out of the city to a place where he can't attack other people.
Provo police have put the dog in quarantine for 10 days. The dog's owner has been cited, and a judge will decide what happens to the animal.
