Pilot killed in plane crash near Provo Airport identified
October 21st, 2009 @ 7:48pm

PROVO -- A pilot is dead after his plane crashed near the Provo airport Wednesday.

The plane wreckage was discovered shortly after 4 p.m. about a half mile south of the airport's control tower on a dike that surrounds the airport.

The pilot, 30-year-old Benjamin Hill, was the only one on board. He was found dead at the scene. Emergency workers believed he was killed instantly.

Provo police said Hill was traveling north when his engine lost power about 3 miles south of the airport. He was attempting to glide the plane in when it crashed.

Hill was an adjunct instructor with Utah Valley University's aviation program, as well as a student at the university. The school said Hill was not flying UVU aircraft at the time of the accident.

Hill leaves behind a wife and two children.
