New Utah National Guard helicopters delivered
October 15th, 2009 @ 6:48pm

WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) -- The Utah Army National Guard's 1-211th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion is replacing its helicopters.

The AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopters began arriving in Utah last week. Another four are expected to be delivered on Thursday.

In all the guard will get 24 new helicopters.

Battalion commander Lt. Col. James Bledsoe says the "D" model of the Apache Longbow aircraft looks similar, but is a significant improvement over the "A" model currently in use. He says the new helicopter is four times more lethal and seven times more survivable in a crash.

Bledsoe says the new helicopters have glass cockpits with multifunctional displays, upgraded night-vision systems, fire-control radars and improved situational awareness.
