LAYTON -- The H1N1 flu is hitting some Utah high schools harder than others and has even forced the cancellation of some sports games. The Utah High School Activities Association said it was handling the situations on a case-by-case basis.
Layton Christian Academy canceled a volleyball and a football game in September after about 60 students were unable to attend school due to illness. While not all absences were due to swine flu, administrators said there were confirmed cases of H1N1.

KSL sought to find what questions were most important to you, then cut through the clutter and found the correct answers to some of the most pressing questions."Being a small school already, when it comes to athletics, that really affects us," said Layton Christian Academy Athletic Director and Assistant Administrator Karen Miller.
Miller said they canceled an already scheduled half day of school that week as well.
"We've never had to close school because of [illness,]" she said. "I just pray everybody else stays healthy."
Other schools reported positive cases of H1N1, although none as dramatic as Layton Christian Academy.
According the Utah High School Activities Association, a game between Uintah and Spanish Fork High Schools also was canceled and will be made up at a later date.
Executive Director Rod Cuft said each situation was being handled on a case-by-case basis. If games close to tournaments have to be canceled, a committee will decide how that will affect a school's rankings. In the case of Layton Christian Academy, the football game wasn't rescheduled since it was preseason. The volleyball game was.
