Walkers raise money for suicide prevention
September 26th, 2009 @ 10:37pm

SALT LAKE CITY -- A rainbow of balloons floated toward the sky while hundreds of people below started the annual Out of Darkness 5K Walk Saturday morning at Wheeler Farm.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention hosts walks like this all over the country. The event supports those who have lost loved ones to suicide and raises money to help prevent people from going down that road in the future.

Supporters say suicide is a major problem, but there is hope.

"It is a real problem, and there is help for it. There are people who've been there, and there are great resources to reach out," says walk coordinator Ashley Christ. "Don't ever give up."

People who walked Saturday helped raise more than $18,000 for the foundation.
