Rep. Cannon Co-sponsors Controversial Immigration Bill
January 11th, 2007 @ 6:42am

(KSL News) A controversial immigration bill co-sponsored by Utah Representative Chris Cannon could pass soon.

The bill creates a pilot program that would give legal immigration status to otherwise undocumented agricultural workers.

If workers can prove they worked more than 150 days in two years, they would get a "blue card." The worker will then have to work in an agriculture job for three to five years.

After meeting those requirments, they can work in non-agriculture jobs.

But Utah activists against illegal immigration say the bill encourages circumventing the legal immigration system.
